Owasso's Haley Raburn – Athlete Spotlight Presented by Owasso Drug
By Ember McElrath
Owasso High School senior athlete and active student member, Haley Raburn, could not be more excited about her senior year of high school. Being busy doesn’t stop this senior from making her final high school year one to remember.
“I won’t look back on my high school years when I’m 80 and think I wish I would’ve gotten an A on that test. Instead, I’ll think that I’m so glad I made all those amazing friends,” said Haley.
Haley is not only a member of the swim team, but captain of the team as well. She is a member of the National Honor Society and on the senior board for the school.
One of Haley’s favorite teachers would have to be her sports medicine teacher, Ms. Birdsall.
“I like her because she cares more about the mental health of her students than she does about their performance in school,” Haley said.
Swimming isn’t just about getting in a great workout for Haley. She's been swimming since she was six years old and has found something that truly relaxes her.
“I love the inner peace I feel when swimming,” Haley said. “The silence underneath the surface of the water calms me down on my worst days.”
When Haley is looking for a little bit of inspiration all she has to do is look toward her parents.
“I think of my parents telling me how proud they are of me and I think of future Haley being proud of what present Haley has accomplished,” Haley said.
When she isn’t busy taking laps in the pool she enjoys training for triathlons, hiking, and spending time with her friends.
After high school Haley has plans to attend the University of Oklahoma and take on the sport of rowing. She is wanting to major in entrepreneurship and venture management with a minor in psychology as well.
