Bixby's Halle Baird – Character Counts Presented by Bixby Flower Basket

Halle Baird may be just a sophomore, but she has assumed somewhat of a leadership role on the Bixby varsity dance team. She has been dancing since the sixth grade and loves being part of the team that performs a routine during halftime at Spartan football games and also participates in separate dance competitions.
“We practice every day except for the weekends and we’ll stay all day on Fridays for football games and go to competitions and stuff like that,” Baird said. “We make a lot of friendships on the dance team and dancing is just really fun and I enjoy it. It’s just like a way to express yourself. My favorite things about dance are performing and competing in competitions with my teammates.”
She also enjoys being one of the team leaders. “We don’t have many upperclassmen on our team, so I try to step up and encourage everyone when the team is down or struggling,” Baird said. “I try and have a good attitude with everything I do and try to have fun with it and put a smile on my face, even when things aren’t going the best, just to encourage my team to be the best they can be, and to just keep pushing to get better.”
Baird also competes in the classroom, making sure she focuses a lot of energy on her academics. “School is pretty much a big part of my life,” said Baird, who is a member of the National Honor Society. “I’ve always gotten straight As and studied a lot and made good grades and just spent a lot of effort in school.”
Another important aspect of her life, further demonstrating her desire to help others, is volunteering at her church.
“I served at church every Monday night, with the little kids, before corona happened,” Baird said. “My church has a Monday night service, so while the adults go to church and hear the message, the kids go to LifeKids and we teach them about Jesus and play with them and entertain them. I really enjoy that.”
