Bixby's Xavier Glenn – Athlete Spotlight Presented by Fieldhouse Gear
In his final season as a Bixby High School Spartan, basketball standout Xavier Glenn wanted more for his team, but they came up just short of reaching that goal. What the senior did accomplish was help build and create a culture of winning under head coach Sam Fairchild.
“This season’s effort was solid, but we still had a lot of things to improve,” said Glenn.
Glenn said the future of Spartan basketball is solid with several guys coming back who will make a big difference next season.
“Kam Parker and Parker Friedrichsen are going to be good players to watch next year. A sleeper that’s going wake people up is going be Devin Isham. He’s a good slasher and can get above the rim,” Glenn said.
Glenn has called the court his second home since playing for his old AAU team, the Oklahoma Hustle. And through high school he has focused on basketball making it the one and only sport he devotes time towards. Playing with this group of guys has been special for Glenn.
“My teammates mean a lot to me. They are my brothers and my family. I don’t know what I would do without them,” said Glenn.
This season was full of highlights for the Spartans and for Glenn, but one memorable night stands out amongst the rest.
“My highlight this year was dropping 40 points my last game as a Spartan,” said Glenn. “To all my fans and teammates and coaches, thank you for all the love and support you put into me. I am grateful for that and one day it’s all going to pay off.”
The payoff may come in the form of a higher education at William Woods University in Missouri, where Glenn is headed after he graduates. Glenn will play for the Owls basketball team and bring his winning attitude and competitiveness to the court.
Glenn said his mother and family have played big roles in his life. He also pointed to his coaches, coach Golden and coach Weaver and the staff at Bixby as people who have helped him become the person he is today.
Leaving Bixby High School will not be easy, but Glenn said being a Spartan means you have to always work hard and never give up when things don’t go your way. That work ethic instilled in him by the staff at Bixby will help carry him through his college career and beyond.
