The high school years are some of the most memorable years of one's life. Hanging out with friends on the weekend, attending sporting events, along with many other things. But the life of a high school athlete is a little different because a lot of their downtime is focused on working on their sport.

Mackenzie “Mac” McGuire says that it can be difficult at times but you have to decide what is more important. “It takes a lot of practice and focus to become successful,” she said. “The focus can be hard at times because there is so much you want to do and places you want to go.”

Mac is a junior at Broken Arrow High School. She plays outside hitter for the Lady Tigers volleyball team and she is a three-year varsity starter. She began playing the sport when she was in the fourth grade and has played ever since.

Throughout her high school years, McGuire has had a lot of memorable experiences but says she has a couple that are her favorites. “I was invited to and played USA High Performance Volleyball in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida last summer,” she said. “It was a really great experience.”

There have been a few people that have been a part of Mac’s life that have made a lasting impact on her. She says she would not be where she is today without them. “The biggest influence on my life would be my aunt Jenny,” she said. “She is someone I can talk to about most everything and she played volleyball when she was in high school. Next would be pro volleyball player, Kathryn Plumme. Lastly, I have to put my many coaches. Each one of them has pushed me to do things a little bit differently than the next and helped grow me in different ways.”

Along with playing for Broken Arrow, McGuire also plays club volleyball, which she says has been a great experience. “I have played club ball for Ultimate Performance National Team the last five years,” she said. “It is a great club and so many great coaches. I have met and made friends with so many players that I stay in touch with.”
