The Sapulpa Lady Chieftains’ basketball team is off to a great start this season, ranked in the top spot of Class 5A. Seniors Alexis Lewis and Temira Poindexter, along with sophomore Stailee Heard are the core of a team that is looking to bring home the team's first state championship since 2007. Let’s have a little fun and get to know these three a little better.

VYPE: Let’s start off with an easy question, what position do you play?

Heard: I play point guard.

Lewis: I am a forward.

Poindexter: I play forward.

 

VYPE: What age were you when you started playing basketball? What team did you play for?

Heard: I was in kindergarten, so I was about four years old and I played for a team at the YMCA.

Lewis: I was five years old and I played for a team for First Church of God.

Poindexter: Five years old and the name of the team I played for was West something.

 

VYPE: What is your favorite subject in school? Favorite teacher?

Heard: My favorite subject is math and my favorite teacher is Mrs. Vanderslice-Baker.

Lewis: I like math. Mrs.Arundell is my favorite teacher.

Poindexter: Math is my favorite subject. I have two favorite teachers, they are Mrs. Arundell and Mrs. Martin.

 

VYPE: What meal do you prefer to eat before the game?

Heard: Probably any kind of pasta.

Lewis: Usually Quick-trip or Tropical Smoothie.

Poindexter: Subway or Quik-Trip.

 

VYPE: Who is the comedian of the team? Does anyone do an impression of coach?

Heard: We have two comedians, Lex and Temira. Nobody really impersonates coach.

Lewis: Comedian is Temira or Stormie, and nobody really impersonates coach.

Poindexter: The comedian is definitely Alexis.

 

VYPE: What do you enjoy most about your teammates?

Heard: I enjoy how we have fun together no matter what, we enjoy being around each other and most importantly playing for each other.

Lewis: I like how close all of us are and how we can make everything fun

Poindexter: We love to be around each other on and off the court

 

VYPE: What is your favorite memory of playing basketball for Sapulpa?

Heard: Making it to state last year.

Lewis: Our team being state qualifiers last year

Poindexter: Making it to the State Tournament last year

 

VYPE: 2020 was a crazy year, what do you expect from 2021?

Heard: To win a state title!!

Lewis: To win a state championship!

Poindexter: To win a state championship!
