Quick Hits:

Union will have a chance at revenge against Mansfield, TX-Lake Ridge on August 27th. The Eagles won last year's meeting 47-44 but finished 5-5 and out of the playoffs on the season.

The Redskins failed to win a district championship in 2019 for only the third time in the last 22 years. Union's 19 district titles is the most in that span. Jenks is next with 15 in 22 seasons.

Last 7 Years:

2019 - 6-5

2018 - 9-3

2017 - 12-1

2016 - 12-2

2015 - 11-3

2014 - 11-2

2013 - 11-3

The Redskins are in unfamiliar territory coming off a 6-5 season, but head coach Kirk Fridrich made some moves in the off-season that may prove to be genius when the dust settles on the 2020 season. “A new offensive coordinator has been hired, Dub Maddox, former head coach at Victory Christian and longtime coordinator at Jenks. There is a lot of excitement in having a common foe lead the offensive side of the ball. Coach Maddox brings two other coaches that have been with him the past several years,” said coach Fridrich. Those other two coaches are Doug Greenwood (OL coach) and Jonny Ulibarri (WR coach). Offensively look for the Redskins to have their foot on the throttle this season. Quarterback Rovaughn Banks (5-11, 195, Jr.) returns giving them a dynamic player at the position. A.J. Green (6-0, 200, Sr.) is one of the more highly sought after players in the state. The No. 2 ranked player by VYPE Magazine is worth the price of admission. De’Monn Sanders (6-3, 205, Jr.) starts at tight end giving Banks a big target in the passing game. Alex Slaughter (6-0, 275, Sr.) shores up the offensive line. Shea Dan (6-4, 175, Sr.) and Makhai Belt are two quick receivers expected to have productive seasons. Dan has received interest from several small colleges, but that interest could build as the season moves forward. Under the Dub Maddox offense, players like Dan have the opportunity to showcase their talents on the big stage of high school football.

“Returning five starters on defense will give this unit a good place to begin,” said coach Fridrich. Marlee Forsberg (6-2, 240, Sr.) will get things started up front as he returns to the defensive line. Gabriel Ford (6-0, 215, Jr.) is back at linebacker giving the Redskins a thumper on defense. Ford started 10 games last year. Also look for Caleb Caylao (5-11, 200, Sr.) and Junior Smith (5-11, 180, Jr.) are two head-turning safeties the Redskins will use in multiple ways. Defensive coordinator Nathan Forster and safeties coach Howard Scarborough are excited to turn these two loose. Jaden Rowe (6-3, 200, Jr.) is another secondary player at corner who can cover the opponents top receiver. All three players started ever game last year. “We gained a lot of experience in a challenging season last year, playing a large group of younger players. I’m excited to see how those players, who have developed physically, look as we take on a tough preseason schedule,” said coach Fridrich.
